Frontier Distributing provides comprehensive cross-border logistics, mail, courier, warehousing, and support services for businesses moving goods between Canada and the United States.
Located within the Fort Erie–Buffalo gateway, one of North America’s most critical trade corridors, we provide seamless transportation solutions connecting Fort Erie, Buffalo, and Toronto. Leveraging an extensive network of Truckload (TL), LTL, and parcel carriers, along with established access to USPS and Canada Post, we handle inbound, outbound, and time-sensitive shipments with efficiency and precision. Frontier is also a Full Service Lettershop providing services to the Direct Marketing industry such services as Data Management including cleansing, sorting and NCOA, Mail Sortation, Component Insertion and handling, traying and delivery to both CPC and USPS for distribution.

Frontier Distributing offers comprehensive parcel processing through Canada Post, USPS, and an extensive network of carriers and last-mile couriers. From delivery to returns, we ensure efficient, reliable handling of customer shipments throughout the entire logistics process.

History of Frontier Distributing

Long time friend Doug Bowering of Bowering Customs Brokers originally started Frontier Distributing. Doug started this business with a selfish intent originally. He subscribed to a car trading publication based out of the US called Hemmings Motor News. It bothered him that he always received it in the mail late. Probably because Hemmings was located in the US and Doug was located in Canada. So Doug contacted them and inquired as to how they ship these to Canada. Through the customs brokerage he decided he could streamline the process, get his publication earlier and also make some money providing the service. Hemmings liked his idea and moved forward with his proposal.

Doug brought me on board, as he was too busy with his Brokerage. We set up a partnership in 1981. I started to get referrals through the printer that handled the printing of Hemmings. We provided the service at that time in the back of a rental truck. I would rent a truck, pick up the Canadian portion in Buffalo, Clear Customs and process the mail right in the truck while parked in my driveway. Doug provided me a desk and a phone at his brokerage office on Walnut Street. Based on the way the business was moving we incorporated in 1983. We moved into rental facilities with a dock and 1 office, 2,500 sq. feet at 833 Helena Street in Fort Erie.

We met a company based in NY City called Johnson and Hayward. They established contact with us regarding moving mail to Canada for them. Craig Johnson thought it would be advisable to purchase half ownership of Frontier. I, in turn, bought out Doug Bowering's share in 1984 and proceeded to go through FERA approval to sell to Johnson and Hayward. Through the procrastination of moving forward with the sale to J & H, the business started to grow. I decided it would not be in our best interest to continue with the sale and instead set up a relationship with Johnson & Hayward to move their mail as well as start production on the lettershop portion.

Frontier purchased our current facility at 1031 Helena Street in late August of 1987. At that time the building was approximately 8,500 sq. ft. We added 6,000 sq. ft. in the fall of 1990 and did major renovations to office, dock area and added an additional 10,000 sq. ft. in spring of 1995.
